About John D. MacDonald

John D. MacDonald (1916-1980) was an American crime writer who is best known for his Travis McGee series of novels. MacDonald wrote over 70 novels during his career, and his books have been translated into more than 20 languages.

MacDonald was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, and he grew up in New York City. He began writing at a young age, and he sold his first short story when he was just 16 years old. MacDonald served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and after the war he worked as a journalist and advertising copywriter.

MacDonald's first novel, The Drowning Pool, was published in 1950. The novel was a critical and commercial success, and it launched MacDonald's career as a crime writer. MacDonald went on to write over 70 novels, including the Travis McGee series, the Mike Shayne series, and the Perry Mason series.

MacDonald's novels are known for their gritty realism, fast-paced action, and complex characters. MacDonald was a master of suspense, and his novels are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.
