Confronting the Crisis of Church Polity: Restoring Biblical Order and Unity
The church today faces a crisis of polity. Traditional models of governance are failing to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world, and new models are emerging that challenge the very foundations of Christian belief. In this book, Dr. Greg Harris confronts this crisis head-on, offering a biblical vision for church polity that is both faithful to Scripture and relevant to the 21st century.

Harris begins by examining the biblical foundations of church polity. He shows that the New Testament provides a clear picture of how the church is to be governed - by elders who are appointed by God and who are responsible for overseeing the spiritual well-being of the congregation. Harris argues that this model of elder-led governance is not only biblical, but it is also the most effective way to lead the church in a healthy and fruitful direction.
Harris then goes on to critique the current state of church polity. He shows how many churches have abandoned the biblical model of elder-led governance in favor of more democratic models. He argues that these models are not only unbiblical, but they are also ineffective. They lead to confusion, conflict, and a lack of accountability.
In the final part of the book, Harris offers a vision for a renewed church polity that is both biblical and relevant to the 21st century. He calls for a return to elder-led governance, but he also acknowledges that this model needs to be adapted to the unique challenges of our time. He offers a number of practical suggestions for how to implement elder-led governance in a way that is both effective and faithful to Scripture.
Confronting the Crisis of Church Polity is a timely and important book. It offers a much-needed biblical perspective on the crisis of church polity. Harris's insights are both insightful and practical, and his vision for a renewed church polity is both inspiring and achievable. This book is a must-read for anyone who is concerned about the future of the church.
